Update July 2023: Despite the media hype, a recession has failed to materialize, and many…
don’t let this happen to you
A few weeks ago a client got in touch about possible malware on her website. It turned out there was no malware but the website crashed simply because it was out of date on the back end.
I designed this client’s first website five years ago then redesigned it in 2017. We do regular maintenance on the site but last year her attention was focused on urgent family matters and she deferred maintenance. Unfortunately, the wait was too long and her website went down. It took several days to bring it back to life.
the life of an entrepreneur
This is not an uncommon story. Most small business owners have so many things going on that website maintenance seems like something that can be put off. It’s not.
Websites are made up of code, and developers regularly update the code not only to ward off malicious hackers but also just to keep the site up and running. The updates should be applied to a website on a regular basis following an established protocol.
what to do
I know. Boring. This isn’t the sexy part of having a website. But it’s necessary.
See my article from 2018 for details about website maintenance.
